Using Buzz

You’ve got the quiet emoticon and the verbal Audible. If that doesn’t get your contact’s attention, buzz ’em! As the word implies, when you buzz someone, you’re sending a short, not-so-quiet sound to their conversation window (if sound is enabled on their computer).

Here’s How

  1. This is so simple! In your conversation window, click the buzz button.

    Click the buzz button.

If your contact has sound enabled, he’ll not only see the word "Buzz!!!" in his conversation window, he’ll also hear it and maybe even see his window shake!

What’s Next

You can choose the sound you hear when someone buzzes you.

  • In the Alerts & Sounds category of the Preferences window (accessed through the Messenger menu), find and select A Messenger contact buzzes me from the Alert me when list.

  • Click the Browse button.

    Click the Browse button.

  • In the Pick an Alert Sound window, find and select the .wav file that you want to hear, then click the Open button.

The next time someone buzzes you, you’ll hear that sound. By the way, the sound you selected isn’t necessarily the sound your contact hears when you buzz him.
