Working With the Contact List

What Is...Controlling What the List DisplaysWhat Do Those Symbols Mean?Changing the List’s Font and Text ColorUsing Contact Cards

Using Contact Cards, Buttons, and Menus

Sending an instant message to a contact is easy. All you have to do is double-click the name in your list to open a conversation window and start chatting. To help you make calls, send text (SMS) messages, and send emails, each contact name in your list includes a contact card, a menu, and, if your list is set to detailed view, a few extra buttons. Through the contact card, you can also check out what your friend’s been up to by reviewing his or her updates.

Note: Pingbox™ visitors don’t have contact cards.

Here’s How

  1. In the Contact List, move the cursor over a contact’s name.

If your list is set to detailed view, two buttons appear to the right of the contact name—a phone button and an SMS button. If the list is set to compact view, the buttons are in the contact card.

  2. Click the phone button to place a PC-to-PC call and click the SMS button to send a text message.

Click the phone button to begin a PC-to-PC call and the SMS button to send a text message.

  3. To access additional communication options, click the display image to the left of the name, then select an option from the contact card.

Click the display image, then select an option from the contact card.

If you friend is sharing updates, you’ll see the updates at the bottom of the contact card.

  4. To work with other contact options, right-click the name, then select an action from the menu.

Right-click the name, then select an action from the menu.
