Requesting a Contact’s Details

You can ask a contact to send her details to you. When you receive the details, you can add the information to your Yahoo! Contacts through Messenger.

Note: You can’t share contact details with contacts outside the Yahoo! network, such as your Windows Live™ Messenger contacts and your Pingbox™ visitors.

Here’s How

  1. In the Messenger window, select Request Contact Details from the Actions menu.

The Request Contact Details window opens.

  2. In the request window, select one or more contacts, then click the OK button.

Messenger sends the request to each contact and opens a conversation window for each with an inline notification letting you know that you’ve made your request.

A notification lets you know that you've sent your request.

Tip: If you’re requesting details from just one person, select the name in your Contact List, then select the menu option. Messenger bypasses the Request Contact Details window and immediately sends the request to your contact.

If your contact accepts your request, your conversation window displays a notification letting you know that the contact has sent her details. You can accept or decline the details.

  3. In the notification of the conversation window, click Accept.

    Click Accept.

Tip: You may receive information from your contact that conflicts with what you already have in your address book. For example, the work phone number you have may be different from the one sent by your contact. Before updating your address book with the contact’s details, Messenger opens the Resolve Contact Detail Conflicts window so that you can select the information you want to save in your address book.

Select the information you want to use for your contact.

After accepting the details, the conversation window displays a notification letting you know that the details have been added to your address book.

A notification lets you know that the details have been added to your address book.

  4. If you want to see what information was added to your address book, click View Contact Details in the notification.

Click View Contact Details to see what information was added.

The Contact Details window opens displaying the information for this contact.
