Using Sounds and Playing Background Music

During calls using Yahoo! Messenger, you can play sounds and background music that you both can enjoy. Say your friend just said something clever. Why not give him a hand by sending a round of applause his way? Or, maybe you need to make amends with your sweetheart. A little romantic music playing in the background while you grovel might do the trick.

The sounds are part of our Soundboard. Just click the sound you want, and that’s what you both hear. Our Soundtrack lets you play background music, and that’s as simple as dragging and dropping an MP3 file onto the call area. The two of you talk while accompanied by your favorite melody.

Here’s How

  1. To send a sound that you can both hear, click the horn that displays during the call, then click the icon that carries the sound you want to send.

Click the horn, then click an icon to send a sound that you both can hear.

Important: Emergency 911 calling services are not available through Messenger’s call features. Inform others who use this product that they must dial 911 through traditional phone lines or mobiles.

  2. To play background music during your conversation, locate an MP3 file on your computer, then drag and drop it onto the call area of the conversation window or the call window for Phone Out and Phone In calls.

Tip: If you drop the MP3 file onto the conversation area of the conversation window, you’re sending the file to your contact. Be sure to drop it on the call area if you want it to play while you’re talking.

Now you can listen to music while you talk.
