Setting Your Archiving Preferences

By default, Yahoo! Messenger automatically archives all of your instant messages for the current session, and then clears them when you sign out. You can set the preference to keep the archives from session to session or to not archive at all.

Here’s How

  1. Open the Messenger Preferences window by selecting Preferences from the Messenger menu in your Messenger window or from the Conversation menu in your conversation window.

  2. In the Preferences window, select the Archive category.

  3. On the right side of the window, select the option you prefer.

Select one of the archiving options.

    • Yes, save all of my message: Archives all instant messages until you clear them manually.

    • Yes, save all of my messages, but clear them each time I sign out: Allows you to recover a message, even if you close the conversation window. When you sign out, Yahoo! Messenger deletes all of the archived instant messages.

    • No, do not save any of my messages: Never archives instant messages. There’s no way to recover the message after you close the conversation window.

  4. You can click the View Archive button to view your archived instant messages, or click the Clear Archive Now button to delete all archived conversations.

Tip: Use the Clear Archive Now button with caution. Once you delete your archives, there’s no way to retrieve them.

  5. Click the OK button.
