Using Conversation Plug-Ins

Conversation plug-ins allow you and a friend to share content or an activity in real-time while you instant message each other. You can browse maps and events together to make plans, express your artistic capabilities, translate messages into different languages, and so on. There are many featured plug-ins available with Yahoo! Messenger, and a lot more available in the Plug-ins Gallery.

Note: Conversation plug-ins don’t work with Windows Live™ Messenger contacts.

Here’s How

  1. In the IM window, while instant messaging a contact, click the Plug-ins button.

    Click the Plug-ins button.

The IM window expands to display the Plug-ins Manager on the right.

The My Plug-ins tab shows the plug-ins you’ve installed and the Featured Plug-ins tab shows a list of available plug-ins.

  2. Begin sharing a plug-in with your contact in one of the following ways:

    • In the My Plug-ins tab, click the Start button.

In the My Plug-ins tab, click the Start button.

    • If the Featured Plug-ins tab, click the Try it now link.

In the Featured Plug-ins tab, click the Try it now link.

Messenger sends an instant message to your contact inviting him to use the plug-in. If your contact accepts, Messenger loads the plug-in and displays it in a tab.

What’s Next

When you start a conversation plug-in, you’re creating a session between yourself and your friend. Each time you launch a new plug-in, you close your current session and open a new session, which your friend must accept before you can start sharing information.

Clicking the Try it now link in the Featured Plug-ins tab not only starts a plug-in, it also places it on the My Plug-ins tab, If you no longer want the plug-in, you can uninstall it.
