An Audible is an animated character that says something out loud. You can send an Audible to your contact instead of typing a message. Yahoo! Messenger offers a variety of Audibles, from creative hellos to flirtations and insults.
This task shows you how to:
Open the Yahoo! Messenger Preferences window and select the Messages category. (Remind me how.)
On the right side of the window, under Miscellaneous, check Enable Audibles.

If you want to see the text of what the Audible says, check Always show captions when I send or receive Audibles.
If you want to hear the Audible sound, check Always play audio when I send or receive Audibles,
Click the OK button.
Tip: To disable Audibles, uncheck Enable Audibles. If someone sends you an Audible, the text of the Audible displays in the conversation area of your IM window without the graphic or sound.
To send an Audible to a contact:
In your IM window, display the Audibles toolbar by clicking the mouth icon.
![]()
The Audibles toolbar displays just below the Conversation area of your IM window.
To display a different set of Audibles, click the More Audibles button, and then select a category from the See all Audibles menu.

Your IM window displays the selected set of Audibles.
Place the cursor over an Audible, and click its SEND button.

Both you and your contact hear the Audible and see it in the conversation area of your respective IM windows depending on each of your settings.
Tip: Without sending an Audible, you can see it and hear what
it will say. To see what it will say, place the cursor anywhere
on the Audible and read the text in the Audible Description area.
To hear the Audible without sending it, click the Audible picture
(not its SEND button).
You can also get someone’s attention by buzzing them.
