You can add contacts to one or more of your groups at any time (contacts can reside in more than one group). Yahoo! Messenger provides the following ways to add contacts to a group:
To add a new contact to a group:
Begin by adding a new contact as described in the Adding Contacts to Your Messenger List tutorial.
In the second page of the Add to Messenger List window, select or enter a group in the Choose or enter a Messenger List group for this person field.

Complete the process of adding a contact.
After you’ve closed the Add to Messenger List window, Yahoo! Messenger adds the new contact to the selected group in your Messenger List.

Note: When you import new contacts, Messenger adds them to the "Friends" group. You can move them to other groups once they are on your Messenger List.
To move one or more contacts into another group:
In your Messenger List, select one or more contacts.
Tip: Shift-click to select a range of contacts. Ctrl-click to select random contacts.
Click the contact name and drag the name over the new group.

Tip: Be sure the cursor is over the name; otherwise, the move won’t work.
