Sending: Click the Button or Select the Menu Option

You can use the Yahoo! Messenger file selector to select one or more files to send to a contact. You can access it by clicking a button or selecting a menu option, depending on whether or not you have already started an IM conversation with your contact.

Tip: You can’t share files while conversing with Windows Live™ Messenger contacts; the feature isn’t supported.

 

Here’s How

If you already have an IM conversation started:

  1. Click the Send File button in the IM window.

    Click the Send File button.

    The Select the file to send window opens.

  2. Locate and select the file you want to send, and then click the Open button.

If you haven’t yet started an IM conversation:

  1. In the Messenger window, select Send a File from the Actions menu.

    The Send a File window opens.

  2. Select the contact to whom you want to send the file, and then click the OK button.

    Select a contact, and then click Open.

    The Select the file to send window opens.

  3. Locate and select the file you want to send, and then click the Open button.

    Yahoo! Messenger opens an IM window for a conversation with the selected contact.

 

What’s Next

A message in the IM window informs you that you’re waiting for your contact to accept the file.

When your contact accepts the file, you see a progress bar as the file uploads to your contact’s computer. Then you see a confirmation that the file has been sent.

If your contact doesn’t accept the file, you receive a declined message.
