Sending: Copy and Paste Onto the IM Window

If you’re already having an IM conversation, you can send one or more files to your contact by copying and pasting them from your computer into the IM window.

Tip: You can’t share files while conversing with Windows Live™ Messenger contacts; the feature isn’t supported.

Here’s How

  1. Locate and select the file you want to send.

  2. In the window displaying the file, select Copy from the Edit menu (or press Ctrl+C).

  3. In the Messenger IM window, select Paste from the Edit menu (or press Ctrl+V).

A message in the IM window informs you that you’re waiting for your contact to accept the file.

After your contact accepts the file, you see a progress bar as the file uploads to your contact’s computer. Then you see a confirmation that the file has been sent.

Confirmation that the file has been sent.

If your contact doesn’t accept the file, you receive a declined message.

Notification that the file has been declined.
