Sending: Drag and Drop Onto the IM Window

You can send a file using Yahoo! Messenger, as long as your contact is willing to receive it; you can also receive files from contacts. To send a file using Messenger, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Both you and your contact must be using version 8 of Messenger
  • Both you and the contact must be signed in.
  • A firewall must not block the transfer.

If you’re already in an IM conversation with a contact, you can send one or more files by simply dragging them onto the IM window.

Tip: You can’t share files while conversing with Windows Live™ Messenger contacts; the feature isn’t supported.

Here’s How

  1. Locate the file you want to send on your computer, then drag and drop it onto the IM window.

A message in the IM window tells you that you’re waiting for your contact to accept the file.

When your contact accepts the file, you see a progress bar as the file uploads to your contact’s computer. Then you see a confirmation that the file has been sent.

Confirmation that the file has been sent.

If your contact doesn’t accept the file, you receive a declined message.

Notification that the file has been declined.
