Sending Your Contact Details

You can maintain your own contact details in your address book and share them with your contacts.

This task shows you how to:

 

Here’s How

To send your contact details to one contact:

  1. If you haven’t already, add your details to your address book by selecting My Contact Details from the Messenger menu, and then completing the information in the My Contact Details window.

    Tip: The My Contact Details window opens automatically when you begin step 2 if you haven’t already added your contact details.

  2. Begin the process of sending your details to a contact in one of the following ways:

    • In the IM window, select Send My Contact Details from the Actions menu.

    • In the Messenger window, right-click a contact name, then select Send My Contact Details from the displayed menu.

    The Send My Contact Details window opens.

  3. In the Send My Contact Details window, select the information you want to send to your contact.

    Tip: To edit your details, click the Edit My Contact Details button. This opens the My Contact Details window where you can update your information, When you close the window, Messenger returns you to the Send My Contact Details window.

  4. Click the Finish button.

    Messenger sends your details to the contact who can then accept or decline them.

 

To send your contact details to multiple contacts:

  1. If you haven’t already, add your details to your address book as shown above.

  2. In the Messenger window, select Send My Contact Details from the Actions menu.

    The Send My Contact Details window opens.

  3. In the Send My Contact Details window, select the contacts to whom you want to send your details, then click the Next button.

    Select contacts, then click the Next button.

    Tips:

    Shift-click to select a range of contacts. Ctrl-click to select random contacts.

    If you select a group in your Messenger List, all of the contacts in that group will be selected in the Send My Contact Details window.

    You can send your details to a contact who isn’t on your Messenger List by entering his or her Yahoo! ID in the Other Contact tab. When you do this, you can only send to this contact—Messenger ignores any contacts you selected in the My Contacts tab.

  4. In the next screen of the Send My Contact Details window, select the information you want to send, then click the Next button.

    Messenger sends your details to the selected contacts. Each contact can accept or decline your details.

Words to Know

  • Contact: a person with whom you interact; someone to whom you might want to send an email or instant message.
  • Group: one or more contacts that you organize together under one unique name, similar to an email list. By default, Yahoo! Messenger adds contacts to the "Friends" group included in the application.
  • Messenger List: a list of coworkers, friends, family, and associates who also use Messenger.
  • Yahoo! ID: the name by which a person is known to all Yahoo! networks.
