Creating a Pingbox

You can create up to 10 Pingboxes™. Beyond that, we’ll ask you to delete one before creating another.

 

Here’s How

  1. In your main Messenger window, select My Pingbox from the Messenger menu.

  2. Customize your Pingbox (all optional).

    • Pick a background theme.

      • Select the type of theme you’d like to have from the pull-down menu.

      • Use the arrows to scroll through the choices, then click the one you like.

    • Change the Text size & color. Click the arrow to the right of the current size, then select a new size. To change the color, click the color box, then select a new color.

    • Change the Display name people see when viewing your Pingbox by typing the name in the box and show or hide your display image by checking or unchecking the box next to Show Yahoo! Messenger display image..

    • Select an online greeting and an offline message that visitors see when you’re online (available to chat) or offline. Click the arrow to the left of the current message, then select from the list. You can even write your own message as shown in the next option..

    • Write your own online or offline message by selecting Enter custom message from the message drop down. The box highlights the text so you can replace it with your own message.

    • Give your Pingbox a name by typing in the box. This name is used as the Pingbox group name on your Messenger list. When someone visits your Web page, you’ll see a name or Visitor under this group. Give the Pingbox a unique name that is meaningful to you, something like "MySpace Friends" for a Pingbox added to your MySpace page.

  3. Click the Save button.

    You now have a new Pingbox that you can add to a Web page as shown in the next task or return to later to make further edits or to add it to a page. Your Pingbox will be there the next time you visit the Yahoo! Messenger Pingbox™ page. If you have Yahoo! Messenger open, you’ll also see your Pingbox group in the Messenger List.

    Tip: While on the add page, you might decide that you’d like to tweak the Pingbox a bit more. You can return to the edit page by clicking Edit above the Pingbox example.

    Click Edit.

Words to Know

  • Display image: a picture or avatar that represents you in some way and that you share with your contacts during IM conversations.
  • Pingbox: an embedded box on a Web page where visitors to the page can send you instant messages and which lists visitors on your Messenger List.
  • Pingbox group: a unique Messenger List group that lists visitors to the Web page to which you added a Pingbox.
