Using Contact Cards, Buttons, and Menus
Sending an instant message to a contact is easy. All you have to do is double-click the name to open a conversation window and start chatting. To help you make calls, send text (SMS) messages, and send emails, each contact name in your list includes a contact card and a menu. Through the contact card, you can also check out what your friend’s been up to by reviewing his or her Yahoo! Updates.
Note: Pingbox™ visitors don’t have contact cards.

To access additional communication options, click the display image to the left of the name, then select an option from the contact card.
If you friend is sharing updates, you’ll see them at the bottom of the contact card.
In the Contact List, right-click a contact’s name to see a menu of options.

Words to Know
- Contact: a person with whom you interact; someone to whom you might want to send an email, instant message, or text message.
- PC-to-PC calling: the ability to call another person’s computer from your computer; similar to placing a phone call. Both you and the person you are calling must have a Yahoo! ID and be logged into Yahoo! Messenger.
- Pingbox: an embedded box on a Web page where visitors to the page can send you instant messages and which lists visitors on your Messenger List.
- Updates:mini-stories about online activities that you can share with your friends and family.
