Controlling the Updates You See From Your Friends

By default, Messenger displays all public Updates from the contacts on your Messenger List who have profiles and are sharing public Updates (sharing with anyone). You can control the Updates you receive and also choose which contacts you want to receive them from.

Note: You won’t see Updates shared with connections only nor will you see Updates from a contact who used an alias when being added to your Messenger List. To see Updates from your connections, visit your profile on Yahoo! or Yahoo! Mail.

Here’s How

  1. Open the Preferences window by selecting Preferences from the Messenger menu.

  2. Select the Yahoo! Updates category, then click the Customize Yahoo! Updates button.

Click the Customize Yahoo! Updates button.

The Yahoo! Updates window opens. The top section lists all of the Update types you’ve received (this is not a list of all possible Updates, but a list of those you’ve already received). The bottom section is a list of the contacts whose Updates you’re receiving.

  3. To stop receiving an Update type, uncheck the box next to the type.

Uncheck the Update types you don’t want to receive.

  4. To stop receiving all Updates, uncheck the box next Show Y! Updates from these sites.

Uncheck Show Y! Updates from these sites.

    All types become unchecked.

  5. To stop receiving Updates from all contacts, uncheck Show Y! Updates from these contacts. To stop receiving from a specific contact, uncheck the box next to the contact’s name.
