Conversing With Your Friends
With Yahoo! Messenger, you can quickly converse with your friends in a variety of ways. The Contact Action Bar is one way. Just begin typing and Messenger displays names from your Yahoo! Contacts so you can pick the lucky person who gets to talk to you.
Here’s How
In the Contact Action Bar, begin typing a name, nickname, phone number, email address... just about any information you have in your Yahoo! Contacts.
Messenger immediately displays a list of names from your address book that have matching information.
Continue typing to narrow the list until you see the name you want, then select a communication option for that name (double-click the name to begin an instant message).
Messenger opens the window appropriate for the type of communication you’ve chosen (for example, a conversation window for sending an instant message).
Tip: If you don’t see the communication option that you want, click the display image to the left of the name to open the contact card, then select an option from the card.
What’s Next: Communicating With Friends Who Aren’t in Your Address Book
You can use the Contact Action Bar to communicate with anyone, even if the person isn’t in your Yahoo! Contacts. Type all of the information and then choose your preferred communication from the button to the right of the name.
Words to Know
- Contact: a person with whom you interact; someone to whom you might want to send an email, instant message, or text message.
- Display image: a picture or avatar that represents you in some way and that you share with your contacts during IM conversations.
- PC-to-PC calling: the ability to call another person’s computer from your computer; similar to placing a phone call. Both you and the person you are calling must have a Yahoo! ID and be logged into Yahoo! Messenger.
