Inviting Friends to Use Messenger

Sending a Personalized Invitation

When you use Yahoo! Messenger’s Add Contact feature, you can specify an email address that Messenger uses to send an email to your friend inviting him or her to join the Yahoo! Messenger community. You can add a personal message to the email...not required, but a nice touch.

Here’s How

  1. In your Messenger window, click the add contact button.

Click the Add a contact icon.

The Add to Messenger List window opens.

  2. Type one or more email addresses in the box (ones that aren’t set up for use with Messenger, such as a gmail address), then click the Next button.

Type an email address, then click the Next button.

  3. On the next page, add a personal message if you like, change the language in which to send the invitation, then click the Next button.

Type a personal message, change the language, then click the Next button.

  4. Click the Finish button to complete the invitation process.

Your friend or friends receive an email invitation to join you using Messenger.

When your friends accept your invitation, Messenger adds their IDs to your Messenger List (and yours to theirs) and opens a conversation window with each so you can start instant messaging.

  • Smart tag: information, such as a phone number or email address, found in an instant message and underscored for your use.
