Working With Contact Information

If you’re deleting a contact because you don’t want to receive instant messages from him, be sure to block the contact after deleting him from your list. The Protecting Your Privacy tutorial tells you how.

Note: You can’t delete Pingbox™ visitors. You can turn a Pingbox off so that visitors to your Web page see you as offline. To learn more, take a look at the Chatting With Visitors to Your Personal Web Page tutorial.

Here’s How

To delete a contact from your Messenger List:

1. In your Messenger List, select one or more contact names (hold down the Ctrl key while selecting multiple names), then select Delete from the Contacts menu or select Delete from the right-click menu.

   The Delete Contact window opens.

2. If you want to delete the contact from your Yahoo! Contacts as well, check the box next to Delete from Address Book, too.

3. Click the Yes button to confirm the deletion.

   

   Messenger removes the name from your Messenger List and your Yahoo! Contacts if you requested it. If you didn’t delete the contact from your address book, Messenger moves the name to your Address Book group.

To delete a contact from your Address Book group:

1. In your Address Book group, select one or more contact names (hold down the Ctrl key while selecting multiple names), then select Delete from the Contacts menu or select Delete from the right-click menu.

   The Delete From Address Book window opens.

   Tip: If you want to delete contacts from your Messenger List, it’s best to do so without selecting contacts from your Address Book group. The previous section shows you how.

2. Click the Yes button to confirm the deletion.

   

   Messenger removes the name from your Address Book group and your Yahoo! Contacts.

What’s Next

You can add, modify, and delete contacts at any time. Keep information up to date by requesting details from your contacts and sending your details to them.

Tip: When you delete a contact from your Messenger List and address book, your name isn’t removed from his or her Messenger List and address book if you were previously added.
