Working With Shortcuts

If an email message that you’ve received includes underlined text, you’re likely seeing a shortcut. A shortcut identifies useful information, such as email addresses, physical addresses, and phone numbers, and underlines the information so that you can act on it. For example, you can click a phone number and add it to your Yahoo! Contacts or click an address and view a map of its location.

Shortcuts are easy and convenient to use...just place the cursor over one and choose an option.

Here’s How

  1. Open an email message. (Remind me how.)

  2. If the message includes underlined text, place the cursor over the underlined text, then select an option from the menu that automatically opens.

Note: The Yahoo! Shortcuts menu offers options appropriate to the underlined text. The following example shows the options you will see for an address.

Place the cursor over the underlined text, then select an option from the menu.

A window appropriate to the option opens; in this case, a map of the location.

You can view a map showing the address location.

  3. If you’ve selected an option to add the information to your Yahoo! Contacts, a window similar to the one shown below opens.

    • Specify whether you want to add the information to an existing contact or you want to create a new contact.

Add the information to an existing contact or a new contact.

Note: If you’re adding the information to an existing contact, type the contact’s name, nickname, or email address (as they currently are in your Yahoo! Contacts) in the box below the first option.

    • Click the Continue button.

    • If this is a work contact, click the Work option; otherwise, leave it as Home.

Select the Work option if this is a work contact.

The Work option adds the Company Name property.
    • Complete the contact information, then click the Save button.

Complete the contact information, then click the Save button.
