Writing Your Message

Your email message includes a subject—a short description about the message—and the message text. Although the subject is optional, including it lets the person receiving your message know at a glance what it’s about.

Here’s How

  1. Begin composing a messages. (Remind me how.)

  2. In the Subject box of the Compose page, type the purpose of your message (optional but encouraged).

Type the purpose of your message in the Subject box.

  3. In the text box under the toolbar (which appears if you have rich text enabled, the default setting), type your message.

    Type your message.

What’s Next

Adding a Signature

A signature—a few lines of text—appears at the bottom of all your outgoing email messages. The text could be your name, business name, a favorite quote, anything you like. You create the signature, and Yahoo! Mail automatically adds it to each of your messages. To learn how to create your own signature, take a look at Adding a Signature to Your Outgoing Messages. To include a signature, you’ll need to write it before composing your first message.

Replying to or Forwarding a Message

Replying to or forwarding a message is like composing a message only you’re working from an email that was sent to you. By default, when you reply or forward, the text of the original message is copied into the compose page, where you can leave it, edit it, or remove it. To learn more about replying to and forwarding a message, take a look at the Receiving and Responding to Email Messages tutorial.
