Personalizing Your Yahoo! Mail Welcome Page

Your Yahoo! Mail Welcome Page

The Yahoo! Mail Welcome page is your Yahoo! Mail home page. Make yours unique by:

  • Creating and personalizing an avatar.

    An avatar is like a virtual you that can show how you’re feeling on any given day.

  • Accessing unread email messages.

  • Accessing unheard voice mail messages.

    If you use Yahoo! Messenger, then you probably already know about the snazzy—not to mention free—worldwide PC-to-PC calling feature that lets callers leave you voice mail when you aren’t around to answer their calls. Now you can access this voice mail from Yahoo! Mail.

  • Viewing your favorite news stories.

    Keep up with the latest in sports or get the scoop on the celebrity gossip.

Here’s How

To create and personalize your avatar:

  1. In the Yahoo! Mail Welcome page, click the avatar silhouette.

    Click the avatar silhouette.

    Tip: If you’ve already created your avatar, you can still click the image and open the avatar page, where you can change your avatar’s appearance.

  2. Choose a male or female avatar, then click the Create my Avatar button.

    The next page opens and shows a somewhat plainly clothed avatar. It’s up to you to add the personality.

  3. Click the different tabs to change your avatar’s clothes, hair, skin color, background, and more.

  4. To give or change your avatar’s mood, click one of the emoticons over the avatar image on the left side of the page.

  5. Be sure to save your changes before leaving the avatar page.

  6. Return to Yahoo! Mail by clicking the Return to Yahoo! Mail link on the left side of the page.

    Click the Return to Yahoo! Mail link.

 

To listen to your voice mail:

  1. In the Yahoo! Mail Welcome page, click the voice mail link.

    Click the voice mail link.

    If it isn’t already open, Yahoo! Messenger opens and you can sign in. Once you sign in, the Voice Messages & Call History window opens.

  2. Listen to your voice mail by selecting a voice message and clicking the Play button.

To view your favorite top news stories:

  1. To read a news story, click on the headline of the story you’re interested in below the In the News heading.

    Click the headline of a news story.

    A new browser window opens displaying the story.

    To return to Yahoo! Mail, click the browser window that displays your Yahoo! Mail Welcome page.

  2. To change the category of news headlines, click the arrow Down-pointing arrowto the left of the In the News label, then select a category from the list.

    Select a news category from the list.

    Yahoo! Mail updates the Welcome page with your selected news category.

    Your Welcome page displays this category until you change it.

  3. If you aren’t interested in the news, you can hide the news items by clicking the Hide link. You can always see them again by clicking the Show News link that displays when the items are hidden.
