Retrieving External Email

Once you’ve set up Yahoo! Mail to access an external mail account, it’s easy to retrieve messages from the account. Yahoo! Mail fetches messages from your external (POP) mail accounts only when you request it. It doesn’t automatically retrieve external mail when you check your Yahoo! Mail account for new messages.

Here’s How

  1. On the left side of the mail Yahoo! Mail page, click the name of an external POP mail server to retrieve messages from that server.

Click the name of an external POP mail server to retrieve messages from that server.

Tip: Clicking the Check Mail button on the main Mail page does not retrieve messages from your external mail accounts.

Yahoo! Mail retrieves messages from the selected server to your Yahoo! Mail account. The messages appear in the Inbox (or other mail folder) marked by the indicator color you selected. If you retrieve messages from more than one external mail account, each group of messages may have its own color, depending on the indicator colors that you’ve specified.

Retrieved messages appear in the appropriate mail folder with a small color block to the left of the message.Enlarge

  2. You can also retrieve external mail from the Mail Accounts page. Select an account from the list, and click the Check Mail link to the right of the server name.

You can retrieve messages by clicking the Check Mail link for an external account on the Mail Accounts page.

In addition to reading messages sent to your external account, you can also send messages through Yahoo! Mail using your external email address.
