Changing a Contact’s Category Membership

Categories are a useful way to organize related contacts into groups that you easily send email messages to. A contact can belong to one category, many categories, or just the default category, Unfiled.

Tip: You can only explicitly add or remove a contact from user-defined categories, not permanent Yahoo! Contacts categories like Deleted, Connections, and Unfiled.

Here’s How

  1. Find and select the contact whose category membership you want to change.

Select the contact whose category membership you want to change.

The contact’s details open on the right.

  2. Click Add (if the contact doesn’t belong to any category yet) or Change to the right of Categories.

  3. To add the contact to one or more categories, select existing categories from the list, and/or type a new category name in the top box (up to 15 alphanumeric characters only, no spaces).

Select a category or type a new name.

Tip: If you add a category name for one contact, it creates a new category that you can use for other contacts as well.

  4. To remove a contact from a category, uncheck the category on the list.

  5. When you’re finished updating the contact’s categories, click the Done button.
