Making the Most of Your Yahoo! Mail What’s New Tab

The Yahoo! Mail What’s New tab is your personal Yahoo! Mail page.

If you don’t see connection and update information on your home page, there are two possibilities:

—You have these features turned off. Click here to learn how to turn them on again.

—You don’t yet have Yahoo! Mail’s connection features. Be patient—everyone will have them soon!

To access your Inbox:

There are several ways to access your Inbox when the Mail What’s New page is displayed.

  • Click the Inbox link on your What’s New page.

  • Click the Inbox tab.

  • Select the Inbox folder in the list of folders on the left side of the window.

To change your status message:

  1. Click in the box with the status message prompt to the right of your display image.

    Tip: If you’ve already defined a status message in your profile on Yahoo!, you’ll see it above the status box.

    Yahoo! supplies a possible beginning for you status message. You can keep this text or delete it and start the message however you want.

  2. Enter your message (up to 140 characters).

  3. By default, your status is shared with everyone who can see your Profile on Yahoo!. If you want to limit sharing your status to your connections only, select Connections from the Shared with menu.

  4. Click the Post button

    Enter your status, then click the Post button.

    Your new status message appears on the Mail What’s New page; it also changes on your profile page and anywhere else in Yahoo! where your status displays.

    If you’re sharing your status, your connections also get an update about your new message.

  5. If you want to get rid of your current status message without entering a new one, click the clear link.

    Click the clear link to delete your status message.

 

To check the weather anywhere:

  1. Near the center of the Mail What’s New page, click the currently displayed city.

    A small window appears where you can type a new city.

  2. Type a city and its location (for example, its state or country) in the box, then click the Go button.

  3. Click the weather to see a more detailed forecast and to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures.

To view your favorite top news stories:

  1. To read a news story, click on the headline of the story in the news area of the Mail What’s New page.

    To return to Yahoo! Mail, click the browser window that displays your Mail What’s New page.

  2. To change the list news headlines, select a different category from the list of available categories.

    Select a news category from the menu.

    Note: The available news categories may vary depending on your location.

  3. To see more news articles, click the More News link at the bottom of the list.

    To return to Yahoo! Mail, click the browser window that displays your Mail What’s New page.

 

To rearrange content on the What’s New Page:

  1. To move the Updates section below the Today section on the page, click the Move Down button.

  2. To move the Updates module above the Today section on the page, click the Move Up button.

To use the Calendar Bar:

  1. Track upcoming events on your Yahoo! Calendar by reading the Calendar Bar, which spans the bottom of the Mail What’s New page.

  2. Click the right arrow to view later events on your Yahoo! Calendar. Click the left arrow to view earlier events.

 

To set the page you see when you launch Yahoo! Mail:

  1. In a browser, go to your Yahoo! Mail page.

  2. Select Mail Options from the Options menu.

    Select Mail Options from the Options menu.

  3. To view the What’s New tab immediately upon logging in to Yahoo! Mail, select the Show me the Home Tab option.

  4. To view your Inbox immediately upon logging in to Yahoo! Mail, select the Show me my Inbox radio option.

  5. Click the Save Changes button to save your settings.

    Click the Save Changes button.

  6. You can also view your personal Mail page at any time by clicking the What’s New tab at the top of the Mail window.
