Setting Default Reminders

Reminders help you remember an event by alerting you ahead of time. In Yahoo! Calendar, you can have up to two reminders sent to you through email, an instant message, a text message to your mobile device, or all three. You can set default reminders to use for all new events. You can always change the defaults for specific events.

Here’s How

  1. In your calendar page, select Options from the Options button above your To Do list.

Select Options from the Options button.

    The Options page opens.

  2. Set your reminder defaults under the Default Reminder Options.

  3. Select the time for your first reminder from the Remind Me pull-down list (any time from 14 days to 5 minutes prior to the event, or No Reminder).

Select a time for your first reminder from the pull-down list.

  4. If you’d like a second reminder, select the time from the And Again pull-down list.

  5. Specify how you’d like to receive your reminder. You can choose one or all modes.

Choose how you would like to receive your reminder.

    • Email—by email through an account of your choice (defaulting to your Yahoo! Mail address). Learn more You must be signed in to your mail account to see your email reminder.

    • Mobile—by text message to a mobile device of your choice. Your mobile device must be registered with Yahoo! Mobile (click here to learn more).

    • Yahoo! Messenger—by instant message through Yahoo! Messenger. You must have Messenger 8 or higher installed on your PC (click here to learn more) and be signed in to receive your instant message reminder.

Note: Reminders are sent to the Yahoo! Messenger client on your computer (PC only), and aren’t sent to Yahoo! Messenger for the Web. Be sure you sign into Messenger with the same ID you use for your Calendar.

  6. Click the Save button to save your default reminder settings.

    Click the Save button.

All new events will show these default reminder values.

What’s Next

Defaults are great. They eliminate the need to set the options every time you add a new event. Defaults are also flexible in that you aren’t forced to use them...you can set different values for specific events.
