Activating Parental Controls

To get the full benefits of Parental Controls for online protection, especially for web filtering, you need to activate the Parental Controls client software on each computer that your children use.

Note: You must create at least one sub account before you can activate the Parental Controls client on your computer.

 

Here’s How

  1. Verify that the Parental Controls client is installed on the computer.

    If it’s not, go to the AT&T Software Center to download and install it

  2. There are several places where you can activate the Parental Controls client.

    • The first time you set the access level for a member of your family (that is, for a new sub account), you may see the following page:

    • In the This Computer panel on the Parental Controls page. (Remind me how to get there.)

    • On the Online Protection Dashboard

  3. Click the Activate button.

  4. Restart the computer to finish activating Parental Controls.

  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each computer that your children use.

 

What’s Next

Parental Controls with standard settings are now active on your computer or computers. You should see a small gray lock icon in the system tray of the start bar in the lower-right corner of the screen.

To deactivate Parental Controls, repeat the steps shown above, but click the Deactivate button.
