Setting Initial Access Levels

Parental Controls includes four different, predefined access levels, based on a user's age:

  • Kids (for children 12 and under): This is the most restrictive access level.
  • Teens (for children between 13 and 15): This access level gives older children more access to online services.
  • Mature Teens (for teens ages 16 and 17): This access level restricts only some types of Internet content.
  • Full Access (for adults): There are no restrictions on online use for this access level.

Each of these age-based access levels has different default restrictions for the following components of Parental Controls:

  • Web Filter: Controls what the user can access using an Internet browser.
  • Email: Controls whom the user can exchange email with.
  • Yahoo! Messenger: Controls whom the user can exchange messages with.
  • Yahoo! Services: Includes features such as Chat, Groups, and Message Boards.
  • Online Timer: Determines when and how long the user can be online.
  • Report Card: Provides the parent with reports on Internet access.

 

Here’s How

  1. On the Parental Controls Setup page, choose the appropriate age level for the family member.

  2. Click the Save Settings button to apply the default settings for this access level to the user.

  3. If this is the first sub account for which you’ve set an access level, you may be prompted to activate Parental Controls.
