Using the Online Timer

Getting Started Setting a Simple Schedule Setting an Advanced Schedule Granting Additional Time

Granting Additional Time

The Online Timer enforces the schedule that you’ve set for your child by blocking him from using the Internet or other online services under either of the following conditions:

  • When: He is trying to go online during a restricted period.

  • How much: He has been online longer than his daily maximum allows.

If your child wants to be online longer, he needs your permission immediately in order to continue any online activities.

Here’s How

  1. When your child gets the Online Timer’s alert that he is out of time, he should click the Request more time button.

Click the Request more time button to ask for more time online.

On the same computer that your child is using, another Parental Controls window appears.

  2. If you want to grant your child additional online time, enter your password in this window, choose the amount of time to allow from the pull-down menu, and click the Approve More Time button.

Enter your password, choose the amount of time to allow from the pull-down menu, and click the Approve More Time button.Enlarge

You can only allow up to one additional hour this way. If you want to allow more than an extra hour of online time, you should change your child’s online schedule. (Remind me how.)

  3. If you don’t want to grant your child more time, click the Sign Out button. Your child will be unable to use the Internet without your permission for the rest of the day.

What’s Next

If you find that your child’s online time is frequently too restricted, you can modify his Online Time settings to give him more time or time at a different time of day.
