| What Is the Web Filter? | Changing Restriction Levels | Allowing and Blocking Sites |
You can modify your child’s basic Web Filter setting by allowing access to one or more web sites that the filter would normally block. You can also block access to specific sites that the filter would normally allow.
For example, assume that your child is restricted to viewing only Yahooligans!-approved web sites. She needs to view her school’s web site, which isn’t on the Yahooligans! list. You can give her permission to access the blocked site whenever she needs to by adding it to a list of allowed addresses.
Or perhaps your child has found a game site where he spends more time than you’d like. You can prevent him from accessing this site by adding it to a list of blocked addresses.
Important: Lists of permitted and blocked web addresses are stored with your child’s account information on the Yahoo! server. However, these settings are not enforced on computers that don’t have Parental Controls software installed because these computers don’t require your child to log in with his Member ID before he uses the Internet.
(More Details)
Go to the Parental Controls settings page for the family member for whom you want to allow or block web addresses.
Tip: If your child’s Web Filter restriction level is No Restrictions, you must change to a more restricted level before you can define specific sites to allow or block. (Remind me how.)
Click the Allow/Block Specific Sites link under the Web Filter gauge.
The Allow/Block Specific Sites page displays.
To add a specific site that you want to allow your child to view, enter the web address (the URL) in the Always allow these Web sites pane, then click the Add button.
To add a specific site that you want to block your child from viewing, enter the web address (the URL) in the Never allow these Web sites pane, then click the Add button.
Enter as many additional site addresses to allow or block as you want.
Click Save Settings to save your changes.
You can return to your child’s Allow/Block Specific Sites page whenever you need to add or remove addresses from the lists. You can also add sites by responding to permission slips that your child sends requesting additional Internet access.
