Setting Other Messenger Options

You can also turn on or off your children’s access to the following Yahoo! Messenger features:

  • File transfer: Allows transferring and receiving files through Messenger.
  • Webcams: Allows viewing or sending web camera images.
  • Chat: Allows communication with others in chat rooms.
  • Voice: Allows using a computer microphone to communicate by voice.
  • Conference: Allows communication with more than one person at a time.
  • SMS: Allows sending text messages to wireless phone numbers.
  • PC2Phone: Allows sending messages to a wireless version of Messenger.

Family members with the Kids access level are automatically blocked from using all these features.

Family members with the Teens access level can use Webcams and Voice by default.

Here’s How

  1. Go to the Messenger settings page for the family member whose access to Messenger features you want to customize. (Remind me how.)

  2. If you want to give your child access to a feature, be sure that the check box in front of that feature is not checked.

A selected check box means that your child has access to the associated feather. An empty check box means that your child can’t access that feature.Enlarge

  3. Click the Save Settings button to save your changes.

What’s Next

You can return to the settings page any time if you need to change your child’s access to these Messenger features.
