Controlling Your Child’s Email Access

If you want to limit the people with whom your child can exchange email, you have two options, both accessible on the email settings page:

  • Block Yahoo! Mail Access—You can turn off your child’s access to AT&T Mail altogether. If you select this option, your child can’t use AT&T Mail at all. This option may be too restrictive for most children.

  • Restrict Yahoo! Mail communication to Address Book contacts only—You can restrict email to people in your child’s Yahoo! Address Book. This means that your child can only send messages to and receive messages from people included in the Address Book. This is the best way to prevent strangers from contacting your child. It’s the default setting for the Kids and Teens access levels.

Choosing this option also gives you control over your child’s Address Book, allowing you to add new contacts or remove inappropriate ones. Your child can’t modify his Address Book without your permission.

If you uncheck both the Block Yahoo! Mail Access and Restrict Yahoo! Mail communication... options, your child can freely exchange AT&T Mail with anyone.

Here’s How

  1. Go to the email settings page for the family member whose email access you want to customize. (Remind me how.)

  2. Select the access option that’s appropriate for your child.

  3. Click the Save Settings button to save your changes.

What’s Next

If you’ve restricted your child’s email communication to people in his Address Book, you next need to review the Address Book to add and delete contacts.
