Customizing Access Levels

Getting Started Changing the Access Level Customizing Yahoo! Services

Customizing Yahoo! Services

If your children are assigned to the Kids or Teens access levels, they’re blocked from using any Yahoo! Services, including chats, Yahoo! Groups, and Message Boards, while older teens have full access to these services.

You can customize your children’s Internet access to allow the younger ones to use one or more Yahoo! Services or to block access to particular services for your older teens. For example, if your 12 year old’s teacher uses an Yahoo! Groups to communicate homework assignments to the students, you need to give access to groups so your child can get these assignments.

Here’s How

  1. Go to the settings page for the child whose access you want to customize. (Remind me how.)

  2. Click the Edit Settings button next to the Yahoo! Services gauge.

The page that appears shows your child’s current settings for Yahoo! Services. When a box is checked, your child is blocked from accessing the associated service. An empty box means that you child has full access to the service.

  3. Check or uncheck the box in front of each service that you want to customize for your child.

  4. Click the Save Settings button to save your changes. You’re returned to your child’s settings page, which shows that you’ve customized the default settings for his access level.

The child's access level now shows the overall level followed by the word Custom.
