Describing Your Music Tastes

When you rate music, you are describing your music tastes to Yahoo! Music. In addition, you can write about your music tastes in About My Music, and then share that information with other Yahoo! Music members. All this information is stored in your music profile.

Your music profile can be public or private. When it's public, other members can find you when searching for similar members, learn about your listening preferences, add you as an influencer, and more.

 

Here’s How

  1. From any Yahoo! Music page, double-click your sign-in ID to open your music profile. (It’s located in the upper-left hand corner above the left navigation pane.)

  2. Click the Edit button in the About My Music section.

  3. Type a description about your music tastes (up to 500 characters) and then click the Save button.

    Your description is saved with your music profile. To review your music description, double-click your sign-in ID to open your music profile.

  4. Click the privacy setting link to change public or private status of your profile.

    Click the privacy setting link.

  5. On the Privacy Setting page that appears, select Public, then click the Update button.

Words to Know

  • Influencer: a LAUNCHcast user that you select to influence the music played on your station. Songs that an influencer rates highly are more likely to play on your station.
  • Music profile: a public web page provided with a Member ID that lets other learn something about the person associated with the ID, such as hobbies and favorite links. You and each of your contacts have a profile that others can view. You can have more than one profile and choose which profile others see.
  • Rating: information that a member provides about how much he likes a particular song, artist, or album. Yahoo! Music bases its recommendations on a member’s previous ratings.
