Accessing Other Email Accounts

Overview Adding Another Account Editing an Account Sending Mail Using Another Email Address Retrieving Email From Another Account Deleting an Account

Overview

Do you have several email accounts? It's OK, you can admit that you have one or more non-Yahoo! email accounts. You may even have several AT&T Mail accounts. We don't mind. In fact, we can help you simplify your life by letting you send and retrieve messages from any of your external email accounts in one convenient location...your AT&T Mail account.

Finding multiple email accounts difficult to manage?Use AT&T Mail to access and manage your external email accounts?

One caveat, to retrieve messages from an external account, the account must allow POP3 access (such as AT&T Mail or Netscape Mail). Even if it doesn't have POP access, you can still send messages.

Sending and retrieving email messages from an external account while working in your AT&T Mail account requires the following:

  • Adding the external account information to your AT&T Mail account.

To allow AT&T Mail to send messages from the external account, you need to provide the account's email address. Optionally, if you want AT&T Mail to be able to retrieve messages from this account, you need to provide information about the account's mail server and how to sign in to the account.

  • Verifying ownership of the other account.

This important step—part of setting up the account—protects the privacy of your external account by making it difficult for anyone else to gain unauthorized access to it.

  • Editing the account information.

This optional task gives you the opportunity to add a few more options, such as having all mail from the external account delivered to a specific folder in your AT&T Mail account and retrieving new messages only.

  • Sending email messages using the other account's address.

Once you set up the account in AT&T Mail, you'll be able to send messages from that account's email address by choosing it in the From box on the compose page. When your recipients receive the email, they'll see the address you selected and their replies will be sent to that email address.

  • Retrieving the account's email into your AT&T Mail account.

If you set up AT&T Mail to retrieve messages from another account, you can simply click a button to pull email into your Yahoo! mailbox. You can decide if copies of the messages remain in the external account or are automatically deleted when you "pop" them into AT&T Mail.

What's Next

When you add an account to AT&T Mail, you are setting AT&T Mail up to send messages from that account. You have the option of allowing AT&T Mail to also retrieve messages from that account.
