Sending Email to a Group of Contacts

In your Yahoo! Address Book, you can group contacts into categories and send one email to everyone (or even just a few people) in that category. To learn how to set up categories, see the Creating Groups of Contacts (Categories) tutorial.

In most cases, you address email to a category while working in AT&T Mail, and all contacts in the category receive the message. Occasionally, you might like to send an email to selected contacts in the category. You can do this through your Yahoo! Address Book.

Here’s How

To send email to all contacts in a category from AT&T Mail:

  1. Open AT&T Mail by clicking the Mail tab, or by typing the following in your browser’s address box:

    address.yahoo.com

    Your AT&T Mail page opens.

  2. Click the Compose button.

    Click the Compose button.

    The Compose page opens.

  3. In the To box, type the category name.

If Address AutoComplete works in your browser, a matching list of categories and email addresses displays as you type. Select the category or address you want.

Select an category or address from the AutoComplete list.

You can also type the full category name or email address.

You can type the full category name.

    Tips:

The email addresses listed in the category won’t display in the To box of the Compose page but do display in the confirmation window after you send your email message and display in the email messages received by your recipients.

If you want to hide the email address from your recipients, type them in the Bcc box as described in the What’s Next section below.

The confirmation page lets you know that your message was sent to the listed contacts (that is, all of the contacts in the category).

What’s Next: How can I hide email addresses from my recipients?

If you want to hide email addresses from your recipients, type the addresses, including category names, in the Bcc box. This is the blind copy box, which means that the addresses typed here cannot be seen by anyone, including you after you’ve sent the message. To use the Bcc box in the Compose page, click the Show BCC link, then type a category name or email address in the displayed Bcc box. Be sure to remove the addresses from the To box if you first typed them there.

Click the Show BCC link.

Type a category or email address in the displayed BCC box.

Two points to keep in mind when using the Bcc box:

  • The To box requires an email address before Yahoo! can send the message. You can use your own or one that you don’t mind showing to all the recipients.

  • Replies to emails are sent to addresses in the To and Cc (carbon copy) boxes only, and not to the addresses listed in the Bcc box.
