Please note: Yahoo! Store, Merchant Solutions, and ProStores customers do not need to create a product feed—simply update and publish your catalog.
Review the (or "Spec") and [url=../basics/basics-14.html] Yahoo! Shopping Merchant Guidelines.
- The Spec, which can also be found when you click "Upload Products" within your account, describes which fields are required, the data formats accepted, and hints and examples.
- The Guidelines describe the general rules and regulations for being a merchant on Yahoo! Shopping. They also include a list of prohibited items. All Yahoo! Shopping merchants are required to abide by these Guidelines. Your listings will be rejected and your account may be suspended if you do not comply.
Set up your product feed.
- The easiest way to create your feed is to download the customized Microsoft Excel spreadsheet template available in Step 2 of the "Upload Products" process within your account.
- You can also create a feed file using a spreadsheet program like Excel or a text editor like Notepad or by writing a script that generates the file automatically.
Fill in your product details.
- Pay special attention to the fields marked "Required" and "Recommended" in the Feed Spec. Any listings missing required information will be rejected. Including the recommended information can improve the placement and exposure of your products.
- If you are using the Product Submit Excel template, follow these steps:
- The required and recommended fields for all product types are listed in the first row. Not all fields apply to all types of products.
- Beginning with the second row, use one row to describe each product, entering the appropriate information for the product in each column. If the field is not recommended for that product, leave it blank.
Hint: The Feed Spec includes examples of acceptable data for each field. You can also check out example product feeds.
- Fill out an additional row for each of your remaining products.
- Check spelling and capitalization--use uppercase only when appropriate.
- Type the word "END" in the row after your last product.
- Save the file as a tab delimited text file (.txt)*—NOT as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xls)—with the name data.txt.
Hint: To save the file as a tab delimited text file:
- With your feed open, choose "Save As" from the File menu.
- In the "Save as Type" drop-down menu , select "Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt)."
- Click "OK" to the warning that the selected file type does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets. Click "Yes" to save as a tab delimited file, even though the file may contain features not compatible with this file type.
- If you have experience creating flat feed files and wish to create your product feed from scratch, follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Excel and create a new worksheet.
- In the first row (the "header"), type the required fields names, one per column. For optimal product placement, you should also add the recommended field names listed in the Spec.
- Follow steps 2 through 6 above.
Upload your Feed.
