Campaign Geo-Targeting

Use the Campaign Geo-Targeting page to target prospective customers in the geographic locations you support. By default, your geo-targeting preference is set to display ads to your entire market. If you prefer, you may target more specific regions such as a state, territory, province, or designated market area (DMA).

Targeting Your Entire Market

To target your entire market:

  1. Click the Campaigns tab. The Campaigns page opens.
  2. Identify a campaign and click its link. The Campaign Details page opens.
  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the Campaign Settings button.
  4. Select Geo-Targeting. The Campaign Geo-Targeting page opens.
  5. Set your geo-targeting preference to Entire Market.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Note: The market for your Mobile Sponsored Search account was selected during signup. If your business spans multiple markets, you will need to create an account to support each market.

Targeting by State, Territory, or Province

To target prospective customers by state, territory, or province:

  1. Click the Campaigns tab. The Campaigns page opens.
  2. Identify a campaign and click its link. The Campaign Details page opens.
  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the Campaign Settings button.
  4. Select Geo-Targeting. The Campaign Geo-Targeting page opens.
  5. Set your geo-targeting preference to Specific Regions. The Target By dropdown list is displayed.
  6. Select State/Province/Territory. The list of states, provinces, and territories within your market are listed below.
  7. Identify the regions you would like to target.
    • To target a specific set of states, provinces or territories, click the checkboxes next to the regions you would like to target.
    • To target all of the available states, provinces or territories, click the checkbox next to States and Provinces/Territories within your market that appears at the top of the list.
  8. Click Save Changes to apply the targeted regions to your campaign.

Targeting by City and Surrounding Area

To target prospective customers by city and surrounding area:

  1. Click the Campaigns tab. The Campaigns page opens.
  2. Identify a campaign and click its link. The Campaign Details page opens.
  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the Campaign Settings button.
  4. Select Geo-Targeting. The Campaign Geo-Targeting page opens.
  5. Set your geo-targeting preference to Specific Regions. The Target By dropdown menu is displayed.
  6. Select City and Surrounding Area. The search panel appears below.
  7. Search for the cities and surrounding areas you would like to target.
    • To search for cities and surrounding areas within a particular state, province, or territory, select an option from the State/Province/Territory dropdown list.
    • To search for cities and surrounding areas near a particular ZIP/postal code, enter the ZIP/postal code and the number of miles radius around that ZIP/postal code that you would like to search.
  8. Click the Search button. A list of cities and surrounding areas appears below.
  9. Click the checkboxes that correspond to the cities and surrounding areas you would like to target. The Map View panel displays the selected cities and surrounding areas. The Targeted Regions panel displays a list of your selections.
  10. If you want to target additional cities and surrounding areas in another state/province/territory or near a different ZIP/postal code, run the search again.
  11. Click Save Changes to apply the targeted regions to your campaign.

Note: Please note that geo-targeting accuracy is not guaranteed and may vary depending on the level of targeting selected, as well as other factors.

For geo-targeted campaigns, search requests from mobile devices can be served geo-targeted ads if the user’s location information is provided to us by our publisher partners.

If the location of the user cannot be determined then that user will not be served geo-targeted ads. We recommend creating a non-geo-targeted second campaign. This allows your ads to serve based on the search term.

Note: Please note that the United States and Canada market does not include French ads.
