What is different about mobile Sponsored Search, in contrast to Sponsored Search?
- Your ads appear in mobile search results only, because mobile search and web search are different user experiences.
- Mobile sponsored search is currently bid-to-position only; it doesn’t take into account ad quality in determining an ad’s ranking in mobile search results.
- Mobile Sponsored Search currently offers only Standard Match types.
- We are not offering our Content Match advertising product for Mobile Sponsored Search at this time.
- Ad testing – Mobile Sponsored Search allows you to rotate ads to see which performs best. It currently does not automatically display the better performing ad more frequently.
- Mobile Sponsored Search does not currently offer analytics to determine conversion statistics. You will be able to see metrics such as impressions, click-through rates and clicks.
- Mobile ads are configured differently to fit the small screen. Rather than a separate title and description, Mobile Sponsored Search allows up to two lines of combined title and description text, of either 20 or 40 characters. The typical mobile screen is only 20 characters wide, so our ads are designed to fit.
- The editorial guidelines for Mobile Sponsored Search are fundamentally the same though there are some slight differences due in part to the variation in how the two channels display their ads.
- In mobile, you can target customers of a particular carrier, and this type of targeting may bring you better results. You can do this at the account, campaign, ad group and ad levels. You can create carrier-specific ads.
- The sign-up process only helps you create an account. You will then be prompted to log in and create a campaign.
- We do not currently offer Assisted Set Up for mobile [Note: Japan does have assisted set up.]
- Keyword suggestion for Mobile Sponsored Search returns keywords based on bidded terms for Sponsored Search; however, unlike the keyword suggestion tool for Sponsored Search, it doesn’t include search volume associated with keywords.

- Blocked domains is not currently supported.
- Our forecasting is based on actual mobile traffic.
- Mobile Sponsored Search doesn’t require advertisers to have a web site to sign up.
