What will Pop-Up Blocker stop?

Pop-Up Blocker stops windows that try to open automatically. Examples:

  • Pop-up and pop-under ads
  • Windows that open after a page loads
  • Windows that open when you leave a site
  • Windows that open when you close your browser

Pop-Up Blocker allows windows that open because you clicked to go there. Examples:

  • Links that open in new windows
  • Pop-ups from any site that you add to your Allowed List
  • Press and hold the CTRL key while clicking a link to override Pop-Up Blocker and allow any pop-up windows resulting from the click

Pop-Up Blocker does not stop:

  • Instant messaging windows
  • Error windows
  • Flash or DHTML windows within the browser
  • Windows that open because of software or adware on your computer*

* Yahoo! Toolbar 5.5 and newer for Internet Explorer and Yahoo! Toolbar 0.4 and higher for Mozilla Firefox contain Anti-Spy, a Spyware and Adware remover. To see what version you're using, click the Toolbar Settings menu (shown below) and select "About Yahoo! Toolbar".

Note: Pop-Up Blocker is not available for Yahoo! Toolbar for Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla Firefox has a built-in pop-up blocker and does not require an additional one.
