How do I remove items that were found?

If you selected "Run Anti-Spy" from the Yahoo! Toolbar and clicked "Begin Scan" to scan your computer for adware and spyware, you see a Scan Results window listing all of the items that were detected in the most recent scan.

To remove items:

  1. Select the item you' d like to remove.
  2. Click "Remove".
  3. Repeat until all items are removed.

You can remove multiple items by holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard while clicking each item you want to remove, or by clicking the "Remove All" button. It should be safe to remove any item found by Yahoo! Anti-Spy. However, some companies release software (e.g., peer-to-peer file sharing) with adware installed that cause the program to stop working if the adware is removed. If you remove all adware from your system and such a program stops working, you'll need to reinstall that program and leave that piece of adware on your system if you want that program to function. We recommend that you remove one piece of spyware at a time to reduce the likelihood of problems.

There is no way to scan for spyware and adware automatically using Yahoo! Anti-Spy. The best way to keep your system clean of spyware and adware is to avoid dubious web sites and scan your computer whenever you suspect it might have been infected (possible signs are: system performance slows, or you see more pop-up ads than usual).

In addition, make sure your browser is up to date with the latest security patches. For Internet Explorer, click "Windows Update" in the "Tools" menu. If you're still having problems with a particular adware or spyware program, try searching Yahoo! Answers or the Yahoo! Anti-Spy Message Boards for the program causing problems. Often, a solution to your problem has already been found and is available there.
