In step 3 of the WordPress activation process, you'll be able to choose either the standard or custom activation path. The standard path streamlines the activation process by selecting certain default settings for you; the custom path allows you to choose these settings yourself. We recommend the standard path for most users.

Settings and plug-ins: If you choose the standard path, we will turn on the most popular settings and plug-ins by default, and choose a page theme for you. The custom path will allow you to select which items you would like to enable for your blog before you activate WordPress. No matter which path you choose, you'll be able to activate and deactivate available WordPress settings and plug-ins anytime from your WordPress control panel. Learn how.
Installation location: If you choose the standard path, your WordPress files will be installed automatically in a default subdirectory that we create for you. If you choose the custom path, you'll be able to save your software files in the default folder; a new folder you name yourself; or a subdirectory you already created. Learn more.
Upgrade method: The custom path allows you to choose how you would like to manage upgrades of your WordPress software: either automatically or manually. If you choose the standard path, we will preset the auto-upgrade setting for you. You can edit your upgrade method, like your other blog settings, anytime. Learn more.
