My home page says "Under Construction." What do I do?

If you see an Under Construction page when you visit your domain (such as http://www.yourdomain.com), you have not yet replaced the placeholder home page we created for you when you signed up for your plan. This file is named index.html, and will generally be replaced when you publish your website using a tool such as SiteBuilder.

Important: By default, the page you'll see when you visit your web address is index.html. In order for your home page to display properly, it must be named index.html. Home pages named something else—home.html or default.html, for example—will not work properly.

If your site does not include a file called index.html (either your placeholder Under Construction page or a home page you created yourself), your site visitors will encounter an error when they visit your web address.

If you've already created a home page but don't see it when visiting your domain, you may need to rename your page to index.html.

To rename your home page:

  1. Locate the page you would like to become your home page Site Contents pane at the right side of the screen.
  2. Right-click the file and select Rename File.
  3. Replace the current name with index.
  4. Select the Enter button on your keyboard or click anywhere in the Site Contents pane to save your changes.

Tip: You can tell if you were successful by checking the file name in Site Contents again—your site's home page will have the message (home page) after the file name. If you do not see the (home page) message, try the above steps again.

Note: If any other pages in your site refer to the file you have renamed, Yahoo! SiteBuilder will automatically update those pages. You'll be able to confirm any updates in the Update Site? dialog after you rename the page.
