Publishing Your Site to the Web

This process of putting your site on the Web, or publishing, is one of the few SiteBuilder activities that requires an Internet connection, so make sure your computer is online now. A quick way to check: Open a web browser and try to open a web site, such as http://www.yahoo.com.

Before you begin, you'll also need to make sure your home page is called index.html. To check, look in the Site Contents pane on the right side of your SiteBuilder control panel. Your home page is accompanied by the label home page. If this page is not called index.html, you'll need to rename it before publishing. Learn how to rename a page.

Now let's publish:

Click the yellow Publish button on your toolbar.

Next you'll be asked to sign in to your Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account. Type your Yahoo! ID and password in the fields provided.

The next screen shows two locations. The first is the location on your computer that contains the web pages you're about to publish. The second location is the web address where you'll be publishing your site. If you see the correct site and web address where you want your site to appear, you're ready.

If you have created multiple sites, or you have more than one Web Hosting or Merchant Solutions account, you can use this screen to select a different site for publishing, or decide to publish to the web address associated with your other account. Click the Browse... button next to the corresponding field. A window will open in which you can select the correct site or web address.

Just below these fields you can choose whether to publish modified files (pages you've changed since the last time you published) or all files. Generally you can use the default choice, Only publish modified files.

(You might decide to publish all files if, for example, you deleted the SiteBuilder pages in your Web Hosting account, or you're publishing your site to an alternate account.)

Click OK to publish your site.

We'll transfer copies of the pages you created to our computers, which we'll use to make them available on the Web. Publishing several pages should take just a few minutes. When the process is complete, you'll be able to see your site at your web address!

Congratulations!
