How can I upgrade from MySQL version 4 to 5?

We've updated the Small Business platform to support MySQL 5. If you're using a database with your site or store, we recommend that you upgrade now to take advantage of better performance and enhanced features.

In order to migrate to the latest version of MySQL, you will also need to make sure you're running PHP 5.3.6 or above. To find out which version you're running and to upgrade, visit the Create tab of your Web Hosting Control Panel. Learn more about switching PHP versions.

When you are ready to upgrade:

  1. On the Create & Update or Index tabs of your Web Hosting Control Panel, click the MySQL Database link.
  2. Click Upgrade Database.
  3. A confirmation window will appear. Click Continue to proceed with the migration process.
  4. Important: During the upgrade process, features of your site or store that rely on a database, such as blog comments or real-time inventory checks, will not be available to your customers.

  5. MySQL will upgrade in the background. To view the status of your upgrade, click Refresh Status. Note that most upgrades will take only a few minutes but could take longer depending on the size of your database.
  6. When your upgrade is complete, be sure to review your site for any issues as soon as possible. You'll have 30 days to roll back your changes in case you encounter any problems with your upgraded database.
