HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, consists of sets of codes (called tags) that are used to control the way a document is displayed by a web browser, such as Netscape Navigator/Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. A document that is formatted using HTML tags — such as the page you're viewing now — is called an HTML document.
