When you connect to your account with FTP, your FTP tool will usually open a pane that displays the files and folders on your computer (your local site). You'll want this pane to display your web site files so you can easily transfer those files to and from your account.

You can use the local site pane to navigate to the folder that contains your web site files. Click twice quickly on a folder or click the + symbol next to the folder image to open it. To navigate to the folder that contains the folder you're in, click the "Up" symbol (a folder with an up arrow on it) or, depending on your tool, a folder named ".." (two periods).

Some FTP tools allow you to choose which folder will be displayed each time you open your FTP tool. Please see your tool's documentation for more details.
