Using a Domain You Registered Elsewhere? Don't Skip This Step!

(If you picked your domain when you ordered your Yahoo! Web Hosting plan, you can move on to the next step.)

Before you can get your web site and email up and running, you'll need to associate your domain name with your new hosting and email services. This process is called redelegating, and it's as easy as sending an email.

Here's what you'll do:

  1. Contact the company that registered your domain (your registrar). You can usually do this on the company's web site.

Don't remember which registrar you used? Look it up (just enter your domain name in the field provided).

  2. Ask your registrar to change your name servers to your new Yahoo! settings.

You don't need to understand name servers to make the switch. Just provide your registrar with this information (be sure to replace learn2yoga.com with your own domain name):

    Dear registrar,
I would like to request a name server change for my domain learn2yoga.com. Please change my name servers to:

    Primary name server: yns1.yahoo.com
    Primary IP address: 98.136.43.32
    Secondary name server: yns2.yahoo.com
    Secondary IP address: 66.196.84.168

  3. Wait up to 72 hours for the change to take effect.

You must complete this step to use a previously registered domain with your new service, so be sure to contact your registrar as soon as possible!
