Switching to Business Mail

In August 2008, we discontinued the Personal Address email service, and any Web Hosting customers who previously used Personal Address were switched to Yahoo! Business Mail. You'll find answers to common questions about this transition below.

What changes when I switch from Personal Address to Business Mail?

The way you access and manage your email will change. You'll also get some great new features.

Sending and Receiving Email
With Business Mail, you will no longer send and receive emails using your personalized email addresses (such as info@widgetdesigns.com) from your free Yahoo! Mail account.

Instead, each of your personalized email addresses will be associated with a separate Business Mail mailbox. You'll send and receive messages with your personalized email address from this mailbox.

After the change, you'll find links to both your free and Business Mail mailboxes in your regular Web mail interface. To send and receive messages from your free Yahoo! email address (such as jane_smith@yahoo.com), you'll just click the name of that account.

See how to switch between accounts.

(Please note that your free Yahoo! Mail address and messages stored in that account will not be affected by this change.)

POP Mail
We're excited to be able to offer POP support as part of your new email service. POP allows you to send and receive email using your own desktop email software, such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora. (Sorry, we do not offer POP with your free Yahoo! Mail inbox.) See more about POP.

Managing Your Plan
You'll create and edit email addresses, set up accounts for other people, and review your email settings on your new Email Control Panel.

Your Email Control Panel

To reach the Email Control Panel, you'll just click a new Email tab in your Web Hosting Control Panel, or click a link in the Web mail interface.

Read more about accessing your Email Control Panel.

How do I check my email?

You can check your email from a new Email tab in your Web Hosting Control Panel, or by selecting your Business Mail account in your regular Web mail interface.

How do I manage email addresses and other features?

You'll manage the email addresses associated with your account as well as other features like your catch-all mailbox and aliases from your new Email Control Panel, which you can reach easily by clicking a new Email tab on your Web Hosting Control Panel.

Learn more about managing email addresses, aliases, and more in our Business Email Help Center.

What about the other people to whom I gave email addresses?

Your existing email users and administrators' mailboxes will change just like yours: Messages sent to their domain-based email addresses (like friend@widgetdesigns.com) will be delivered to a new Business Mail mailbox, and messages sent to their free @yahoo.com email address will be delivered to their Yahoo! Mail mailbox as usual.

Your email administrators can access the Email Control Panel from the Mail Options area of the Web mail interface. See instructions.

All of your users and administrators can access their mail, as you can, from the Web interface. Learn how to check email.

What is POP, and how do I start using it?

We're excited to be able to offer POP support as part of your new email service. POP allows you to send and receive email using your own desktop email software, such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora. (Sorry, we do not offer POP with your free Yahoo! Mail inbox.)

To set up POP, you'll need to purchase your own software, then use your new POP settings to configure your account. If you're using a PC with Internet Explorer and Outlook, we can even set it up for you.

Learn more about POP.

I still want to receive all of my mail in my free Yahoo! Mail mailbox. How do I do that?

We like how a Business Mail mailbox can help you organize your business and personal email, but if you'd prefer the convenience of managing your messages all in one place, you can forward your mail from your new premium mailbox to your free Yahoo! Mail account.

(Note that you can't use POP if you forward your mail.)

Can I purchase additional email addresses?

No, but your new Business Mail service includes 200 email addresses, so we don't think you'll need to!

Will I still get unlimited email storage?

Yes! Learn more about unlimited storage.

How can I get help with my email?

You'll find detailed instructions for managing your email in your Email Control Panel. For more information and help using Business Mail, please see our Business Email Help Center.
