Store Data Center Move

In order to meet the critical needs of our merchants, it is necessary to move all store servers to a new data center location. While this move will lead to some short periods where merchants will not be able to access Store Manager, the move presents a unique opportunity to review and improve upon our current server architecture. The new data center will include upgraded faster servers and allow us to scale our operations.

When will the move happen?
Merchants will see an alert message in the Store Manager seventy-two hours before the move affecting that store will begin. Servers will be moved in batches starting on March 7th and ending on March 15th.

How long will the process last?
In order to minimize impact to merchants, the moves are scheduled from 9pm to 3am (PST).

What functionality will be affected during the move?
The move will most likely not affect your site's ability to receive orders except under the specific circumstances outlined below. The following functionality will be unavailable during the times of the move:

  • Access to the Store Manager and Store Editor will be unavailable during the move time.
  • Order delivery by email, fax, or real-time posting will be delayed for the period of the move.
  • Database inventory will be unavailable. Merchants using database inventory must set their stores to temporarily allow orders during the time of the move for their store (quantity can exceed availability set to yes) or else buyers will not be able to check out.
  • Gift certificates will also not be functional during the move.

DNS Changes for Merchants with Domains Managed Outside of Yahoo!

Merchants with domains managed outside of Yahoo! (domains not purchased during signup or redelegated to Yahoo!) will need to change DNS information. The instructions below outline how merchants can check their current settings and what action, if any, is required.

To check your DNS settings

  1. Go to the Melbourne IT Find Domain Name Holder.
  2. Enter your domain name and click Search.
  3. Review the nameserver and or nameserver address information returned.
  4. Compare the results with the table below to find the apprpriate action.

If nameservers are currently set to… …then change to the following:
Name servers yns1.yahoo.com
yns2.yahoo.com
No DNS changes are required.
Name servers st-ns1.yahoo.com
ns5.store.yahoo.com
No DNS changes are required.
Name servers st-ns2.yahoo.com (216.136.225.203)
ns4.store.yahoo.com (216.136.225.198)
st-ns1.yahoo.com (209.191.66.175)
ns5.store.yahoo.com (209.191.66.226)
CNAME* store.yahoo.com or storename.store.yahoo.com CNAME to stores.yahoo.net
A Record*
(not preferred method)
66.163.161.45 68.142.205.137

* If you have anything other than yns1.yahoo.com/yns2.yahoo.com or st-ns1.yahoo.com/ns5-store.yahoo.com listed for nameservers, then you are likely using a CNAME or A Record to point your domain to Yahoo!.

When to make changes:
Merchants can immediately make any of the changes listed above that are applicable to their domain and their sites will not be impacted. We are currently publishing to both data centers to allow merchants time to make these changes.

Note to merchants using real-time features:
If you have real-time features integrated into your site (such as orders delivered in real-time to a web server, real-time tax and shipping calculation, or real-time inventory), and you restrict access to IP addresses specified by Yahoo!, you will need to update the list. The move to the new data center will mean data delivered in real-time by Yahoo! will come from a new set of IP addresses. Please set your web server to accept the following IP address range:

  • 209.191.66.0/24

Note: These changes will not have any impact on search engine rankings.
