Setting up a Cross-Sell Discount

The cross-sell discount applies when shoppers select the "Selected Item" (see Figure 1, A) and the "Cross-Sell" item together (see Figure 1, B). The discount can be either a dollar amount or a percentage off -- in both cases the discount is taken from the regular item price (not the sale price).

To apply a discount to an existing cross-sell item:

  1. From the Cross-Sell Manager, click the "Edit" link for the selected item to which you wish to apply discounts for cross-sell items (see Figure 2, A).
  2. Do one or more of the following:
    • Percentage: To apply a percentage discount to the cross-sell item, enter the value for the percentage off, followed by the percent symbol (for example to apply a 15% discount to a cross-sell item, enter 15% into the Discount text field for that item--see Figure 3)
    • Amount off: To apply a certain amount off discount to the cross-sell item, enter the dollar symbol ($) followed by the value for the amount off (for example to apply a $10 discount to a cross-sell item, enter $10 into the Discount text field for that item--see Figure 3)
  3. Click the "Modify Entry" button when finished. (You return to the Cross-Sell Manager.)
  4. Repeat for any other selected items if necessary.
  5. Click "Done" when finished.

To apply discounts to cross-sell items in a table:

  1. From the Cross-Sell Manager, click "Download Table". (You may be prompted to enter your security key to proceed.)
  2. Open the table in a spreadsheet application.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Percentage: To apply a percentage discount to the cross-sell item, enter the value for the percentage off, followed by the percent symbol in the discount column for the row associated with the cross-sell item (for example to apply a 15% discount to a cross-sell item, enter 15% into the cell in the Discount column for that item's row.
    • Amount off: To apply a certain amount off discount to the cross-sell item, enter the dollar symbol ($) followed by the value for the amount off in the discount column for the row associated with the cross-sell item (for example to apply a $10 discount to a cross-sell item, enter $10 into the cell in the Discount column for that item's row.
  4. Save the file to CSV format.
  5. Upload the table by browsing for the file, sending the file, and then selecting to add to or rebuild the existing rules if validated.

Notes about Discounts

  • All selected and target items must have unique codes (set up in either the Store Editor or Catalog Manager, or with a database upload) and unique options codes. When entering products in Catalog Manager or Store Editor, set up each product with a unique code and set up unique options codes in the Catalog Manager if your item contains options (such as color or size). If cross-sell items are not working in checkout or on product detail pages, ensure that both selected and target items have unique codes and unique options codes.
  • If more than one cross-sell discount applies to a given product, the larger discount is used. If a product also has a sale price defined, whichever is lower -- the sale price or the cross-sell discount price -- will be applied.
  • If a shopper removes the "Selected Item" that generated a discount from their cart, they will "break" the discount and the price of the cross-sell product will revert to its regular price.
  • If a shopper adds the cross-sell product to their cart and subsequently adds a "Selected Item" that qualifies them for a cross-sell discount, they will then receive the discount.
Note: Cross-Sell Manager is available only with Merchant Solutions Standard, Professional, and Yahoo! Store packages. The product detail page and auto-suggest Cross-Sell features are only available for stores using Checkout Manager.
